I live in southern California, and I’m working on amending my soil with home grown compost (I won’t use the stuff that comes in bags), but I still have some areas that are the poor sandy soils of this region. I’m going to eventually turn this into a vegetable plot, and I already have native plants. What kinds of vegetables, herbs, or even cover crops might grow well here to start out with?

resistance to pesticides and pests, better and more consistant crops.
Take for example this hypothetical situation:
A plant is plagued by a fungus that lives in the soil. It affects the roots and eventually kills the plant. now say there are fields and fields of such plant, and one of them just happens to have developed a rare genetic mutation (mutations in DNA happen naturally in quite large amounts but few have any effects) that just so happens to make it resistant to that fungus. It grows to be healthy while all the plants around it die. This plant then flowers and seeds and produces a whole load more plants, all of which are resistant to this fungus. Now just suppose this plant has fruits and a farmer spots these plants are flourishing and takes them back to his farm and replaces his mouldy plants with these improved ones. Everybody is happy because there are now healthier plants and more fruits.
But say a scientist spots a plant that suffers from a similar problem and uses some genetic tools to tweak the plant to solve its problem and gives it to a farmer who is happy because his plants no longer die. This ‘modification’ may or may not have happened naturally given enough time.
The public are however not happy.
Now why is this?

Can I take in my hold luggage fresh clean cut herbs as the country I am travelling to don’t grow this herb
Hey, i am currently 19 years old and I am going to a community college for my 2nd year. I feel that I had a sucky teenage year when growing up, I have never had a girlfriend, which has been really starting to upset me. I am a average guy like anyone else I just have problems Fitting in or something. I moved around alot during my highschool years and made friends, but i could never keep them. Now i am back in my hometown and it is totally boring there is nothing to do and for the past year I just feel like im rotting my life away. There is a girl I like in this town and i have strong feelings for her, i even ask her out on a date, but she was seeing someone else and I gave her flowers one day, which made her day 
But it sucks…b/c i dont think I will ever have a relationship with her while she is with her boyfriend. I know i need to forget about it for now but its hard b/c i work with her also. I dunno some day I try to gain confidence and i do but it only last so long….

Paul is an apple grower in central Georgia and wants to expand his apple orchard. In her current orchard, there are 25 trees per acre and the average yield per tree is 500 apples.Data from the local agricultural experiment station indicates that if Paula plants more than 25 trees per acre, once the trees are in production, the average yeild of 600 apples per tree will decrease by 10 for each tree over 25. She needs to decide how many trees to plant in the new section of the orchard. Throughout this task assume that, for all apples growers in this area, the average yield is 500 apples per tree when 25 trees per acre are planted and that this yield will decrease by 10 apples per tree for each additional tree per acre.

It is for a science project and all the flowers that i have seen either grown in the winter, but take a month or two two grow, or vice versa, any suggestions?
indoors, i know not outdoors
you have to start the science project in the winter since you get everything approved after school begins, that you have to do research, so i did start it on time

I live in new hampshire, and I have a pretty steep area of forest in my neighborhood, where would I find any kind of herb around here? I have to grow specifics to cook with (obviously) but I was curious to see if there was anything easily identifiable around here.
