USA will become China’s Sweatshop?

I know nothing about the economy, nor do I pretend to. But I’ve been reading a lot about the US economy, and is this a correct metaphor?

Year 1:
Farmer Smith trades his surplus of Apples for farmer Chang’s surplus of pears.

Year 2: A storm destroys farmer Smith’s apple orchard. He gives farmer Chang apple IOUs(dollars) in exchange for pears.

Year3: Farmer Smith once again, gives Chang apple IOUs in exchange for pears. Then a man named Abdul discovers oil.
Farmer Smith gives him apple IOUs for oil.
Farmer Chang gives some of his apple IOUs to Abdul for oil.
Abdul accepts apple IOUs because he knows he can exchange them for apples, and even pears.

Year 4: Same as last year, except Farmer Smith decided to turn his farm into a golf course. His ex-workers are starving now, so he prints out more apple IOUs and gives them to his ex-workers. Now they can exchange them for pears and oil.

Year 5: Abdul realizes there aren’t any apples. He tries to get rid of all his IOUs and no longer accepts them. By the time Chang realizes it, he is screw with a lot of worthless apple IOUs. He still makes pears though, so he will survive. Smith and his workers, on the other hand, are stuck with nothing.

Year 6: Farmer Chang buys Smith’s golf course with pears. He’s turns it into an apple orchard. Chang pays Smith’s ex-workers 1 pear a day to work on the orchard. They are use to being payed the equivalent of 100 pears a day, but it’s the only job they can find.

This is a metaphor, it has nothing to do with framing/apples/pears.

Please educate me if this is wrong.

Do You know what You might be eating?

Are You aware, that most if not all of the produce which we import from Mexico; China and other Nations is not inspected by our government? This produce we import is not fresh, in that from the time it is picked until it is in our stores, which could be over a weeks time. Further more, there have been instances of produce unfit for human consumption entering our country. A Chi-Chi’s Mexican Resturant back east had 575 customers attract Hepititis from comtaminate green onions grown in Mexico. Do these people who decide to let these things happen to our country eat the same imported food the rest of us may have to? Why do we need so many vegetable pickers and illegal aliens in this country, if a large portion of this produce is be exported?

What do you think the best cover version is of all time?

I’m really keen to make a compliation of cover versions that are special. My favourites are Hurt by Johnny Cash (originally by NIN), Louie Louie by the Kingsmen (originally by Richard Berry) and Wuthering Heights by China Drum (originally by Kate Bush).

I’d love to have some further inspiration to make a great compliation – plus I’m curious too!

Thanks for any contributions!

Are vegetables safe from E. coli or other bacteria?

WIth all the scare of the livestock and fish eating the tainted food of wheat and rice from China, salmonella in peanut butter, and scares of E. coli – -

If a vegetable like celery, squash, broccoli, beans, etc, is going in a field that was flooded with contaminated water from a chicken or cattle farm with manure and such……. can the growing vegetable get E. coli from the filthy water ? This would mean that it would be in the vegetable when someone ate it.

Is this possible ?
I understand about he bacteria being on the outside, and I try to pick my own fruits & veggies from mostly organic farms and orchards…..

I was worried about the water flooding the field from rain or whatever would have small enough bacteria that could get * inside * the vegetable making it unsafe to eat. This means no matter how much it it washed or peeled it is not safe.

I guess this means to be safest, cook all vegetables instead of having a salad, or munching on carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, etc.

response to alternative fuel were ok but do you know indepth how much $ for solar, hydrogen duhh and extractin

…g? do you know how much you can trust hear-say? as a matter of fact, diesel engines were primarily to run out of vegetable oils, expensive and huge fields to grow unless in Brazil; costly hydrogen duhh to produce; need better batteries and better climate for solar;new oil fields to discover, don’t forget that China wants SUVs and the same standard of living as in USA, hope we don’t go to another war for remnants of petroleum…maybe for now the solution is to apply ALL of this concepts…and do your research…
