What defines English culture?

I live in the Uk – born here. But I do not like the culture. I am not materialistic, I don’t drink, I don’t eatch TV, I try to get away from selfish hedonistic thinking – I like green ecoliving and walking and hiking and gardening and plan to work with children and learn about permaculture.

Ithink the UK GENERALLy not all people – is totally crap in its attitude towards children and that spills out ot attitudes towards humanity.

Will I fit in anywhere

What flowers can I plant in southern Germany?

I recently moved to southern Germany and I want to plant some flowers on my balcony porch thing. My only problem is that I don’t know what flowers I can grow in this climate at this time of year, nor can I find a website in English (since I don’t speak/read German enough to make any sense of it) that helps me out.

So, what can I grow where I live? I would prefer to plant flowers, but I can go for herbs and other things like that too.

Question for Hindi Speakers?

Hi every body. What we called a bail in English. In Hindi bail is known as A plant which grow with the help of rope. Like bail of grape, Bail of flower, Turai ke bail, kaddu ki bail. Do anyone can tell me what we use for bail in english,

I haven’t had much luck so far, my flowers gro crazy and grow every which way? I have a big old house and yard, how much do landscapers charge?

Can you correct this text please?

I am from Germany and I will have a presentation on Monday. It’s in English. But I think, I have some grammatical mistakes in this text.

Can you corret them?
Thanks!=)

The text: The food in the 60.s was healthier and cheaper as today. The most people grew their own vegetables, fruits and herbs. Food in general was not expensive not including vegetables, fruits and herbs.
Examples: A roll costs only 5 pfennig, bread 69 pfennig, a prezel 7 pfennig, a bottle of milk circa 50 pfennig and margarine only 1.50 mark.
Butter was in this days too expensive. Fast Food was unkown in Germany. The people used their “own” food in the kitchen. The whole family ate together at the same times every day. At lunch they ate soups(bread soup), pasta with tomato puree and potatoes with quark and herbs. A meal like this only costs three mark. The people ate many stews with carrots, bones as well. For dinner there were meals wit bread, margarine, chives, tomatoes, cucumbers and so on.
In the weekends they ate meals with meat. Meat was in this days very expensive because Germany had to import meat products. But in the end of the 60.s the people bought more meat, because women were allowed to work and so the families had more money as before. The children did not eat sweets everyday. Sweets were also luxurious and expensive.

Typical meals in the 60.s: -
Old bread were baked in the pan and should be eat with sugar
-Herrings with cream and potatoes

Hello English Friends across the Great Blue! What do you plan on growing in your gardens this Spring?

I’m really curious to hear what folks in other countries grow in their home flower and veggie gardens. We live in the Midwest, in the States, and here’s what we’ll have:

Loads of tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, and other bulbs my girls planted with me in the fall.

We’ll plant zinnias, cosmos, morning glories, roses, along with butterfly bushes, stargazer lillies, daylillies, lilacs, mulberry bushes, and tons of other flowers.

Our veg garden will have loads of tomatoes, Indian corn (the girls love the colors), cucumbers, and some herbs. We have deer, rabbits, and bunnies, so lots of other veggies get nibbled down. :)

I was wondering what you all grow? How big are your yards? Ours is .78 acre which is 2,608 square meters . We usually start planting our spring gardens around Mother’s Day in mid-May – is it the same for you?

Thanks so much! I can’t wait to get the Spring Gardens going, and have always wondered what gardeners in other countries planted. :D

Jimmie Rodgers – English Country Garden

Jimmie Rodgers - English Country Garden

James Frederick “Jimmie” Rodgers (born September 18, 1933 in Camas, Washington, United States) is an American singer. He is not related to the country singer of the same name. Rodgers was taught music by his mother, learned to play the piano and guitar, and formed a band while he served in the United States Air Force. Like a number of other entertainers of the era, he was one of the contestants on Arthur Godfrey’s talent show on the radio. When Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore left RCA Records to found a new record company, Roulette Records, they became aware of Rodgers’ talent and signed him up. In the summer of 1957, he recorded a song called “Honeycomb”, which had been recorded by Bob Merrill and Georgie Shaw three years earlier. It was Rodgers’ first big hit, staying on the top of the charts for four weeks. The following year, he had a number of other hits that reached the Top 10 on the charts: “Kisses Sweeter than Wine”, “Oh-Oh, I’m Falling in Love Again”, “Secretly”, and “Are You Really Mine”. “Honeycomb” reached Number 30 in the UK Singles Chart in November 1957, but “Kisses Sweeter than Wine” climbed to Number 7 the following month. His biggest hit in the UK was “English Country Garden”, which reached Number 5 in the chart in June 1962. Oddly enough, the song was never released as a single in the United States. In 1962, he moved to the Dot label, and four years later to A&M Records. He also appeared in some movies, including The Little Shepard of Kingdom Come

couldn’t find this song anywhere on here so i thought i’d post it. beemp3.com Oh oh i really wanted that thing I just want to sing I love you baby Won’t you bring All the flowers you Find out in the garden Don’t tell me the truth That your heart has hardened But you don’t want me anymore How can it be Look what you’ve done to me Oh oh Oh oh the bee does quickly sting I was wondering If you could maybe darling Think? I’d give everything If you’d grant my love a pardon And all the fruits Again would fill the garden But you don’t want me anymore How can it be? Look what you’ve done to me Oh oh Oh oh, oh oh oh oh (and so on)

Where I’m From Poem?

This is a poem I had to write last year for my English Class… I wanted opinions on it.

Where I’m From

I am from herbs,
from lavender and rosemary.
I am from the shells lying in the sand.
(Intricate, delicate
shining in the ocean spray.)
I am from the Lady Fern,
the Coastal Redwood
whose majestic limbs reach into the sun
taking the heavens in their grasp.

I’m from ice cream and lemonade,
from mint chip and cookie dough.
I’m from the arched neck,
and the rippling muscles,
from powerful hooves pummeling the earth.
I’m from the lives that were saved
with an accurate diagnosis
and the veterinary career I once strived for.

I’m from Popeye and Olive Oil,
spinach and salads.
From the tender loving care
given to me
the warm embraces saved ’til the end.
Within a strong mind
well-known faces flicker by,
images fresh and clear
hidden memories appearing within dreams.
I am from those moments,
Growing young and strong,
Taking on the challenges of life.
~Dec. I do enjoy food enough that it keeps me going. XD Some listed, was just my favorite foods, the other was going off of ‘popeye’ as he ate spinach and stuff… ‘popeye’ is also my grandfather’s nickname, so there’s double meanings. Writing and poetry are what I consider to be my one true talent. Thank you. ^^
