Gardening in an Apartment?

I would really like to start gardening, but I live in an apartment. I do have ample patio space for planters, but the sunlight would be minimized due to the screen. I’m clueless, so let me tell you a few things so you can give me the best advice!

I’d like to grow things I will actually eat, like onions, potatoes, carrots, avocado, fruits, green onions, garlic, lettuce, squash and green beans. I would like it to be fairly low maintenance, and not too costly.

I do not care to grow only herbs, or any tomatoes.

As I said, I am a novice, so I’d really appreciate good feedback on this one!

Can anyone help me with Gardening?

I never had a garden before and nothing of it. I’d like to start growing my own tomatos, peppers and few herbs. Are there any techniques to starting a garden? How do I take care of it? How do I prevent animals from getting to it? Any advice will help…thanks.

My 4 o’clocks bit the dust w/our first freeze, as well as my cherry tomatoes. What do I do cut back/pull up??

Okay I pulled up my Cherry tomatoes, my Serano peppers (Very Sad) but my pretty 4 o’clocks bit the dust with the freeze also. I cut them down to the base, and I was wondering if they will grow back next year, or should I pull them up from the root and start over? I am guessing they will grow back, but being new to gardening and flowers, I will take any advice anyone will give me.

I am a gardening novice and moving to a house with patio – what fruit/veg can I grow in pots?

I would like to start growing some fruit/veg but am a complete novice and will only have a small patio and/or window boxes. I would love some advice about what plants I can grow in pots (esp things I can start with now but also things I can plant next year). I would like to try chillis, tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, salad leaves and any veg that will grow in a pot. I guess its late in the season to start now but hopefully there are things I can try now? I also want to have a few plants in pots that will be green for as much of the year as possible to brighten up the concrete patio. Again I would appreciate any advice.

Brown thumb?

I absolutely love to garden! It relaxes me and I enjoy getting my hands dirty. The problem is, once my plants have grown, they quickly die. I’ve even killed an aloe vera plant! I follow all the directions and never neglect my plants. I’ve subscribed to gardening magazines and have searched the internet on plant care. No use! The funny thing is, when someone else takes over tending my plants, they suddenly blossom and bloom! When I take over again, they wilt and die….Does anyone have any gardening secrets they want to share? Anything would be appreciated! I am currently growing an herb-kit (parsely, basil, thyme, etc. Got it at Wal-Mart) and a chamomile plant. Both of which are wilting and turning brown…*sniff*

How do you grow spearment from seeds?

Trying to grow spearment from seeds. Planted them in an outside pot 2-3 wks ago and nothing is happening yet. Do I need to start them inside and then move them outside? Also, what is that about keeping them covered until they germinate? Someone help please, i’m gardening ignorant but determined to have an herb garden this year.
