a question for gardeners?

so i just became a home owner and am excited about this big yard.i think it would be fun to get some things growing. previous owners did a little. there are tulips(which i would like to transplant), sweet peas(not sure if i want to keep those), theres a rose plant but i’m not sure if it’s in too good a shape. and little purple wildflowers(kinda looks like an upside down bunch of grapes on a green stem).some great trees and bushes.
this is what i’m thinking of planting this year:
*veggies: pumpkin, tomato, cucumber
*flowers:flax, poppy,columbine(dragonfly hybrid)
*herbs:mint, lavender,basil
any tips/suggestions?

Bird of Paradise????

Recently moved into a new home and outside, at the side of the house, are a row of flowers. I believe them to be the Bird of Paradise with the red flower. Seems they were not taken care of and the leaves are dried out and some are laying across the walk way. I started to clean out a corner and cut some of the bad ones back to a stem…then I realized what if they dont grow back? Can you prune these back? How do you care for them?

Is it still a good time to plant flowers that are already grown?

I just moved and the front and back yards are very plain… it needs color. would it be possible to still go to Home Depot’s garden center and just buy flats of flowers that are already grown? Is it bad timing (season wise)? If so.. what flowers would you recommend that are pretty much annuals?

i love my husband , but he says he doesn’t love me. yet we stay together…?

we have 3 kids, all grown and out of the house. i always thought that our marriage was a good one because he always did the right things to make me happy. you know bring home flowers for no reason, send me cards. the little things that make me feel loved. after the kids left home i found some emails where he was trying to go out with this other woman that works for the same company as he did. i asked him about them and he told me that it wasn’t any of my business. blah , blah, blah, then after persueing the issue with him, he told me that he never loved me and that he just stayed because of the kids. I was devestated. still am. anyways, i found out that this woman told my husband that she doesn’t date employees and just keeps them at arms length. her polite way of saying that she wasn’t interest in him. So now he says that he wants to stay with me and work things out. what would you do. stay or leave? tell me what you think of him

Best way to grow basil in a pot?

Help! I have always had a herb garden (planted in the earth). This year we have just moved to a home with a very tiny yard (we’re on the golf course and they seem to frown on us planting on the greens… lol). I have filled the flower beds around the house too full of blooming things to have any room for herbs. Sooo, I planted loads of terracotta pots and placed them on the back terrace. All the herbs are doing great except for the Basil. It’s dying!! Any suggestions as to how I can help it along? It gets full sun, isn’t over or under watered, and is planted in miracle grow potting soil. I’ve always had basil flourish- this is vexing! Thanks in advance for the help.

did i do something wrong?

a few weeks ago, my g/f was hinting about marriage because of our 2 kids. i told her no, i already have a wife and 6 kids with her. she yelled at me, so i yelled back, i can’t marry you because i already own 1 woman. and she is where she belongs where all women do, at home in the kitchen cooking and cleaning and taking care of the kids, i mean i can’t do it, i barely know nor give a damn about the kids.
anyway, i broke up with her and kicked her out of the spare room, she is now living with her sister. problem is, she came back to the house and told my wife, not that i care
my wife has grown fat and ugly a long time ago, i stopped being faithful to her 4 days after the wedding, her freind and flower girl was the lucky woman there. the problem is now my ex g/f is spoiling it everytime i bring another g/f home to ****, she storms the room, even refuses a 3somei need regular sex and all women are easy, so what have i done wrong to make her angry, i mean, all women want to be dominated.

What would grow in poor sandy soil?

I live in southern California, and I’m working on amending my soil with home grown compost (I won’t use the stuff that comes in bags), but I still have some areas that are the poor sandy soils of this region. I’m going to eventually turn this into a vegetable plot, and I already have native plants. What kinds of vegetables, herbs, or even cover crops might grow well here to start out with?
