A poem: Have any of you had any of that good hippie lettuce lately? Care to comment?

I was down in my room
And all I could smell was
This potent skunk perfume

The smell drew me upstairs
It was a big green skunk
With orange and purple hairs

It must have came from outer space
My roommate waved a plastic bag
Of the star dust covered leaf
right in my face
And then he pulled out
A big glass blown tube
That looked like a vase

I sparked the crystal lattice
The white tornado spinning into my lungs
It had a pleasantly nice taste
A mix of grape and pineapple paste

Then we puffed this stuff
That looked liked a white berry
It had me floating in the clouds
Like some sort of magical ferry

Exhale to find your thoughts
drifting on plumes of smoke
A shrubs green leaf
saturated in snow flakes
Give me one more toke

My body felt like a candle
On its way to relax
Melting into a pile
Of hot fluid wax

Even the most dull things
Looked vibrantly zooted
I was worried my mind waves
Would stay convoluted

But my roommate told me
This is naturally organic
Your mind paints lucid paintings
No need to panic

Heck! Did you even know the first US flag
Was threaded from its fabrics
And its roots helped suck up toxins
In Chernobyl
The plants got some darn good tricks

Even GW was an advocate:
“Make the most of the Indian hemp seed
And sow it everywhere”
But our leaders don’t like the environment
And say its buds would cause great despair

Financing or partnership in greenhouse and hydroponic lettuce operation?

I am looking for a lending institution who would finance me adding a hydroponic lettuce greenhouse on my farm. Our credit is ok but not awesome, average score of 680. We have 3 years experience in hydroponics. We have 25% of project amount for the system. We have been to the SBA and they approved our business plan for SBA support but had no lending options. 85k in farm equity and are looking for 75-85k in loan. What options do we have or interest is there?

Is it OKAY to juice regular non-organic Carrots?

Organic produce can be very expensive. I read that so much fruit and vegetables (I’m a vegan) that I have been eating are not organic and that they have a lot of pesticides in them. Stuff like Apples, which are second in the list of produce that is most likely contaminated…next to peaches. Lettuce and spinach is in there too, which I eat a lot of. Carrots are #13 out of 20. There are a few fruits and veggies that they say are alright not organic because they do not have as much pesticides. Stuff like Bananas, Avocado, Broccoli, etc.

Now, I am wondering, a 50 lbs bag of carrots cost me $15.00 if I ordered them not organic. Otherwise, it would be like $1.69 a 2 lbs bag. Furthermore, organic fruits and vegies are a little harder to find. I will be growing a lot of carrots next year in the Garden. This will help. I just need to know if It will be of some benefit to juice non organic carrots or it they should be avoided.
I have also heard…and it really makes sense, that if it is not in the ground, it is not in the produce. So, if nutrients are not in the ground, neither are nutrients in the carrots. However, I know that there is at least some nutrients in the carrot because the energy that carrot juice gives me. Thank you for your help.

Gardening experiment: help me find a control?

I have to do an experiment and grow lettuce in a hydroponic gardening dome and pots of seedling mix/fertilizer. I’m comparing the growth rates and my independent variable is the gardening method.

The control is the absence of the independent variable, so technically there would be no gardening method (nothing to show for my control)…Are there any other options?

Thanks!

Growing Lettuce in water?

Is it possible to dig up lettuce I have already growing outdoors and grow it in water (Hydroponics)? It has been growing only 3-4 weeks outdoors. If not, how do you start it? I have googled it, and it says you need oasis root cubes, and you add hydroponic fertilizer, epsom salts and calcium nitrates to the water. Is this necessary? What is the easiest way to do this? I have a green house I can put them in.
I am in the South also, where it gets really hot in the Summer, if this would make any difference. Thanks so much!

How can I neutralize (reverse effects of) soil sterilant in my garden?

I moved into an old home with a large garden space. I recently learned (after several hours of tilling and planting potatoes and lettuce) that the former owner used a powerful sterilant in the garden that is normally used in fruit orchards to keep weeds from growing be tween the trees. He grew his plants in plastic and potting soil. I don’t have the resources to do this, nor the desire. I hope there is a way to neutralize the effects of the sterilant. Any ideas? I am not sure what the exact brand of the sterilant was.
