Black raspberry plants grow larger and the fruit is richer in flavor than their red and yellow cousins. They make outstanding preserves and pies and are delicious eaten out of hand. Jewel is large fruited, glossy black in color and the bushes are vigorous and highly productive. Jewel cultivar is quite disease resistant. Space plants about 3 feet apart. Each will grow to 7 feet tall and will bend over and root from the tips. If you wish to prevent this, pinch or prune the tips each summer when they reach 5 feet tall.
