No sun gets to my patio. What are the best native California plants to plant in containers?

I have a lovely, large patio…except that it gets absolutely no sun. I would very much like to grow some native plants as a container garden – maybe even some herbs and vegetables. But I don’t even know where to begin to find out what plants will work in complete, total shade.

What would grow in poor sandy soil?

I live in southern California, and I’m working on amending my soil with home grown compost (I won’t use the stuff that comes in bags), but I still have some areas that are the poor sandy soils of this region. I’m going to eventually turn this into a vegetable plot, and I already have native plants. What kinds of vegetables, herbs, or even cover crops might grow well here to start out with?
Thanks for any help.

What are the pretty bushes?

I’m new to tucson AZ I found out the name of th bright red and orange bushes(red bird of paradise) but am still puzzled about a med pink(bright) bush and a white bush ( they are both tall about 6 ft or so aprox) I like bushes and flowers but besides the cacti, am puzzled as to the other native plants as i am previously a buckeye, and part hoosier and not used to desert landscape, i’ve also seen a little bright orange flower that grows close to the ground it has a almost tublar bloom on it, Any help would be appreciated.
