What would grow in poor sandy soil?

I live in southern California, and I’m working on amending my soil with home grown compost (I won’t use the stuff that comes in bags), but I still have some areas that are the poor sandy soils of this region. I’m going to eventually turn this into a vegetable plot, and I already have native plants. What kinds of vegetables, herbs, or even cover crops might grow well here to start out with?
Thanks for any help.

“Top 10″ of medicinal herbs grown Midatlantic region?

I am an avid gardener, and am very familiar with growing vegetables, fruits, and culinary herbs. I have recently become interested in the medicinal uses of herbs, and would like some ideas on what to plant in my garden, which is in Chester County, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. Space is not an issue, nor are locations dependent on partial shade, full sun, &c. (we have several gardens around the property which afford just about any combination of sun and shade, drainage, &c.).

So my question is, as I am just getting started with medicinal herbs and do not want to devote an *inordinate* amout of space or resources to them (i.e., I don’t want to start with a giant garden of 50 different medicinal herbs), what might be a good “Top 10″ (or Top 5 or 15, 8 or 12, whatever) of multi-use medicinal herbs. The ones most common in many preparations.

Please discount culinary herbs, which I already grow: basil, dill, oregano, marjoram, chives, parsley, rosemary, thyme.

Thanks for helping

What are some vegetables that are easy to grow in pots and tubs?

I live in a cool, temperate, alpine region. The soil is too poor and rocky for a vegetable garden (I grow herbs in that bed instead).

I have a large verandah that gets full sun for most of the day and is very sheltered, so I was hoping to grow some vegetables in big tubs and planters along it.

Any suggestions from experienced gardeners? Most vegetables will grow here, unless they are tropical or subtropical.

What is Georgia’s State Vegetable?

Also, when your answering my question could you also include what region is famous for growing it…..THANK YOU!

Growing Fruit in the Niagara Region Video

www.virtualfarmtours.ca Transcript Orchards in the Niagara region of Ontario produce a bounty of plums, pears, apricots, nectarines, peaches and cherries. Fruit that grows on trees is referred to as tender fruit. Young fruit trees are grown from seed, then planted in the orchard. The trees must grow for several years before they start producing fruit. For example, it takes about three to four years for a peach tree to grow from a seedling to a tree that produces fruit. Spring is blossom season in the orchard. These peach blossoms are ready to be pollinated. Pollination happens when pollen is carried from male flowers to female flowers by bees or by the wind. Fruit trees need to be pollinated to produce seeds that will eventually become fruit. A covering of straw helps to keep water from evaporating into the air when it rains or when the orchard is irrigated. Fruit trees need lots of water and sunshine to produce fruit. Trimming grass between rows of trees helps to control pests and diseases — and it keeps orchards looking neat and well maintained. Pruning helps fruit trees to grow properly and keep their shape. Pruning and thinning also helps trees to produce top quality fruit. There’s no machine that can do this work; it’s done by hand to be sure that the fruit isn’t damaged. By early-summer the fruit starts to take on the shapes and colours that we’re all accustomed to seeing. These peaches are starting to ripen. There’s still some green on them so they’re not quite

A landscape architect plans to enclose a 3000 square foot rectangular region in a botanical garden. she will..?

A landscape architect plans to enclose a 3000 square foot rectangular region in a botanical garden. she will use shrubs costing $45 per foot along 3 sides and fencing costing $20 per foot along the fourth side. find the minimum total cost?? and verify that your answer is correct by using the appropriate derivative test??? thanks much!

How to minimize the total cost?

A landscape architect plans to enclose a 3000 square-foot rectangular region in a botanical garden. She will use shrubs costing $20 per foot along three sides and fencing costing $15 per foot along the fourth side. Find dimensions that minimize the total cost. The fenced side is ____feet, and the other side is____ feet. Round your answer to 1 decimal place.
(Hint: Let x equal two of the sides and 3000/x equal each the other two sides. Multiply according to costs creating a function in one variable. It’s okay to just pick x as the side to receive the $15 fencing cost. Take first derivative to minimize.)

Will you help me please? Calculus I work!!!!?

Can I grow a high altitude Bolivian mint (10,000ft, Copacabana region ) in Atlanta, GA?

I have the option of using my not so fertile clay soil or a hydroponic setup. The altiplano regions of Bolivia and Peru are desert like. The mint is a sparse growing weed on the islands of Lake Titicaca. Known by the locals as Munja, pronounced “moonya.” Its a delicious unique mint brewed as a tea, for altitude related illnesses, stomach and headaches. Name: Minthostachys Setosa
