Overwatering vs underwatering?

How do you tell the difference between a plant that’s dying from lack of water compared to one that’s dying from something like root rot? I have some potted herbs and there’s a number of factors compounding the issue, such as availability of sun (balcony grown, gets a couple hours less sunlight than normal) and non-ideal soil (very rich). In particular thyme and oregano aren’t doing well, but sage, rosemary, basil seem to be doing fine, and I don’t know why the first two are dying. Lavender is doing so-so. I can’t tell if its from lack of water or too much of it! I water them well twice a week… is that too much? It was really hot last week and that’s making it harder for me to figure it out. I don’t want to have to replace them again!

My 4 o’clocks bit the dust w/our first freeze, as well as my cherry tomatoes. What do I do cut back/pull up??

Okay I pulled up my Cherry tomatoes, my Serano peppers (Very Sad) but my pretty 4 o’clocks bit the dust with the freeze also. I cut them down to the base, and I was wondering if they will grow back next year, or should I pull them up from the root and start over? I am guessing they will grow back, but being new to gardening and flowers, I will take any advice anyone will give me.

Do purple robe locust tree seeds grow into purple robe trees?

I know that the root is actually a black locust tree with the purple robe grafted on so do the seeds revert back to black locust or stay with the purple pink flowers?

How to use hydroponic growing additive Atami Wortel?

I have the root stimulator called Wortel from Atami and on the product it says that i should use 1ml for every liter of water and also i should use it every day for the first week until I replace it with Atami Hydro Booster. My question is, I have a hydroponic drip system with a tank of 50lt. so that means I have to use 50ml (5 caps) of Atami Wortel. Should I use this amount every day for my hydroponic system. This is not specified on the box so I don’t want to give too much for the plants. If anyone can help me it would be great.

Passion Flower: I have one growing in a pot….next spring will it grow again from the root or do I need to?

my giant aloe is having babies! i’d like to replant them, but i have no experience with aloe reproduction.

i have seen branches at the base of the plant, yet no seperate root system for these “buds”. is it a good idea to carefully snap ‘em off and replant them, or let them sit in water? or maybe they, in time, will shoot out roots like runner plants?

just in case it’ll help, here’s a description of the aloe and its growing conditions….

this aloe is five years old, and has never reproduced before. it is grown in a two-gallon plastic flower pot, and weighs nigh on thirty pounds, at least. (not including the weight of the dirt and pot) it is grown on a shaded balcony with probably… four to five hours of sun every morning, and receives copious watering. it’s soil is a mixture of topsoil, composted cow manure, and miscellaneous composted plant wastes from my garden.
this plant has Never produced flowers. :)
if that helps….
