I have two tomatoe plants growing inside. They are producing flowers but even though I brush them with a small paint brush they will not pollinate, what can I do? I would like to have tomatoes all winter long!

There are various tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers and lettuces growing from seed.
I planted tomatoes, cucumbers, bush beans, peppers (bell), eggplant, onions, and strawberries along with a few herbs. I covered the eggplant and peppers on the coldest nights. But the cucumbers aren’t looking the greatest and the bean’s leaves look pale. The tomatoes are fine. They just seem to have not grown an inch. We had a really warm day yesterday and I noticed one of the tomato plants has flowers on it already! It’s only 10″ high! This can’t be good, can it? Should I fertilize everything? When I planted I added compost manure to the soil, but I’m not sure this was enough so seeing how stressed the plants were by the cold. I normally don’t fertilize until I start seeing the fruit forming. For the most part the onions look good and so do the strawberries and herbs.
What should I do about the rest? The weather looks warm for here on out. And what’s up with that tomato plant flowering so early?

I’ve already planned on tomatoes and onions since I use them a lot in cooking. I need help thinking of a 3rd veggie to plant- something that isn’t common at the farmers market and doesn’t take up a lot of room for growing. The bed is only 4 by 7.
I already have herbs growing in a separate bed.
…can recommend anything? I live in Canada, so they have to be OK with getting covered and frozen for 7 months. I have a south exposure with lots of western light too. It’d be nice to grow something edible but not sure if this will work. Any recommendations?
As the title suggests. I live in a flat and don’t have any garden space, but we do have a number of fairly large window-boxes – around 12″ deep, 12″ wide and 40″ long. I’ve always grown herbs in them, but is there any kind of vegetable I could hope to grow in a space like that? I understand that potatoes and butternut squash are a bit out of my reach, but there must be something that could grow there? Tomatoes? Peppers? Onions? Could I just seed something in now and hope it sprouts?
Thanks, keen gardeners!

I was thinking of peas, beans, lettuce, and some herbs. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully done this.
Last year my wife and I planted some tomatoes and herbs, which we’ve already started in our home this year as well. We’re going to try a couple new things this year with planting broccoli and sqaush (crookneck) seeds, but need some tips from you green thumbs out there. Any help would be great!
Live in the mountains in Maryland – it’s still cold and we have frost every morning – I wasn’t going to start the broccoli seed inside, but rather plant directly in our garden – However if we do that, then we won’t be planting the seeds for several weeks (due to the frost)
thank you ranger dan – very informative
I would like to make a raised bed garden for my vegetables this year. The area I have to work with is 14′x6′ and I’d like to make a couple of boxes (both squares and rectangular) to go into that area. I plan to grow lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and a couple misc. vegetables. I would like to do this in the most cost effective way because I’m just a cheap person, but I’d also like it to look nice. I would love the beds to be made of wood, but the lumber isle of the hardware store is scary. Let alone trying to get the lumber home and heaven forbid I have to cut the wood. I think you get the idea. I see a lot of nice kits online, but once again I’m just too cheap to buy them when I think I can make something nice myself. Any ideas?
