I plan to start a small vegetable garden soon? what soil is best? and…?

I plan to start a small vegetable garden soon in my backyard. I live in central Florida, have plenty of sunshine and decent temps for plants. I will only be planting (a) watermelons (b) various peppers (c) various herbs and (d) cucumbers. What I need to know…

(1) Is it alright to use packaged manure as your planting soil? It’s relatively cheap (about 2.00 a bag) and I assume it does the job. Or do I have to buy the super expensive stuff that costs $9.00 a bag and has numerous growing agents and chemicals?

(2) When should I fertilize and how often? What should I use for the fertilizer?

(3) Is there anything I should know seeing how I’m a novice to this hobby?

(4) should I attempt to plant some of the vegetable plants and herbs in the ground or in large planting pots?

Would a small Hydroponic Vegetable/Fruit garden be profitable?

My mom is struggling cash wise, but she has a large extra bedroom built onto the back of her house. I have recently learned hydroponic gardening.

I think gardening would not only be relaxing for her to do, but might also help bring in a little income if she can produce fresh YEAR ROUND tomatoes, strawberries and grapes (or whatever fruit or veggie) to local neighborhoods.

Do you think this would be a good idea?

How much could she reasonably expect to make from this? I know hydroponic gardens grow fast.

How to: vegetable/herb garden.?

I have no idea how to start, care, and maintain a vegetable and herb garden but I want to because I want to learn how! What I’ll mainly be growing are strawberries, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, egg plants, onions, garlic, parsley, rosemary, chives, bay leaves and oregano. I plan on growing them in individual pots raised above the ground because the soil in my yard isn’t so great. What kind of soil should I put in the pots for the vegetables and herbs? Should I water them everyday? How can I repel insects and bugs from destroying and eating them? How do I prevent weed from growing with them? Also, how can I make them taste good (haha)? I heard that if you put sugar in the soil, it’ll make the vegetables taste more sweet. I really want to make my garden happen, please help me out! If there’s also any other concerns I should be informed, please tell! Thank you! Oh, I live in San Diego so I have no idea if some of the vegetables/herbs I’ve named are able to grow in this climate.
Also, cucumbers.

Radiohead, playing “Vegetable”, from PABLO HONEY. Radiohead, in the “Live at the Astoria” concert on 27 May 1994, notable mainly for its collection of songs that would not appear until the release of THE BENDS, ten months later. It is also Radiohead’s only concert home video/DVD to date. This dvd captures Radiohead playing an absolutely amazing gig. The quality of the performance is remarkable – Thom Yorke’s soaring voice, Jonny Greenwood’s frantic yet precise lead guitar, Ed O’Brien’s haunting atmospheric sound. Slingshot Vegetable Mess

A cabbage turnip is the enemy of the day in this The Slingshot Channel release. Various weapons, most of them designed by Jörg Sprave, are used against the ghastly vergetable. It puts up a good fight, but looses in the end. This video shows how a new slingshot that is outfitted with three Thera Band Gold strips per side is drawn into the butterfly stance, a world premiere. The film does show the machete slingshot, the winch operated slingshot and the new three-band slingshot crossbow as well.

Vegetable, Fruit, or something completely different?

Banana – I heard its a herb, but i think thats a load of crap
Potato – I’ve heard that the difference between a vegetable and a fruit is that a fruit has a seed on/in the fruit so whats a potato?
Tomato – According to the above definition of a fruit im assuming its a fruit
Pumpkin – Grown up calling it a vegetable… but again according to above defiition must be a fruit?

Im just extreamly bored, and wondering about this… thanks in advance!
