What Can I Grow in My Vegetable/Herb Garden?

I live in Massachusetts. Can someone tell em or give me a like to all the fruits/veggies/herbs I can grow in my garden? I want to start picking things out for next year.
And another question, could I grow lemons/citrus, or is it too cold?
Wow, so sorry. I meant to say, can someone give me a LINK….

can i clone a vegitable/herb plant without any adverse effects?

i got myself some cloning hormone at my local garden shop, i’ve cloned plants before, but never vegetables or herbs, and as I was reading the instructions it says do not clone vegetables or anything edible. I was wondering why not? and what would happen if I did? would the vegetable or herb be harmful if it was grown as a clone??
@ Maverick:

cloning as in taking a small cutting from a larger plant and forcing it to root with rooting hormone in a medium such as soil or sand. I understand that some plants do not require rooting hormone, but those plants are very minimal and rooting hormone is usually required for larger and more woody plants.
edit 2:

yeah we used to call it propagation too, which is the same as cloning correct? we usually cloned woody plants, like elephants food, and other types of flowers.

you kinda have me confused… you say that plants can’t be cloned, but then you do..??

it’s very surprising to me that a botanist has never heard of rooting hormone, or in fact, cloning at all! there is are so many products that can be used for this exact purpose:

http://www.plantitearth.com/store/default.asp?catid=7

again, i said it is possible to clone some plants withOUT any hormones involved, but it’s much harder and requires much more attention, and the hormone usually gives it a big boost and helps the rooting tips form sooner.
@ ninja,

yeah i was thinking the exact same ninja, i found it odd that the instructions said not to clone them and I had no idea why!
@ mav… ugh, i don’t understand why you’re making a big deal about the definition of new terms and old terms. who cares, it’s the same thing.. i got into botany only a couple years back, so my terms are probably updated, and this is where our conflict begins.. i don’t understand why you seem to be so aggressive with your statements. you may be right that i won’t need any hormone solution to propagate vegies and herbs, but i guarantee that the horm. solution will boost my success rates by a lot.
@ mav again:
since you seem so surprised to me using a rooting/cloning hormone to propagate a vegie or herb cutting, then how would your ideal method be to achieve a successful propagated plant without any hormone or rooting stimulus?

Looking for chart with vegetable nutritional values.?

I want to grow a garden that provides most or all of my food. I have limited space 66ft x 66ft (1/10 acre). So I’d like to grow the most nutritious plants.

Does anyone know where to find a chart with nutritional values of all food plants? (vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, fungi)

I’m looking for food plants that are highly nutritious, low maintenance, disease resistant and have a high yield.

I live in zone 10, but I also need to know about plants that are in zone 8.

Maybe you can suggest some food plants.

Thanks

What would grow in poor sandy soil?

I live in southern California, and I’m working on amending my soil with home grown compost (I won’t use the stuff that comes in bags), but I still have some areas that are the poor sandy soils of this region. I’m going to eventually turn this into a vegetable plot, and I already have native plants. What kinds of vegetables, herbs, or even cover crops might grow well here to start out with?
Thanks for any help.

Can seeds be brought into the UK?

Can a few packets of seeds (herb, vegetable or flower) be brought into the UK in luggage from overseas? These would be seeds of plants which are not indigenous, but commonly grown in another country.
Hi,Thanks. I just looked on a website, and it looks like a few packets are okay, pasted below.Could anyone confirm this please?

“plant products and/or produce may be imported from the USA without a Phytosanitary Certificate by each traveller up to the limits set out below:

* 2kg of fruit and vegetables,
* cut flowers and any parts of plants together forming a single bouquet (maximum of 50 stems), and
* five retail packets of seeds (but not seeds of potatoes).

Further information can be obtained from:
Defra”
The above is for the US to UK, but is it the case for all countries? How about from Africa or Asia?

Which vegetables grow best in small planters?

As the title suggests. I live in a flat and don’t have any garden space, but we do have a number of fairly large window-boxes – around 12″ deep, 12″ wide and 40″ long. I’ve always grown herbs in them, but is there any kind of vegetable I could hope to grow in a space like that? I understand that potatoes and butternut squash are a bit out of my reach, but there must be something that could grow there? Tomatoes? Peppers? Onions? Could I just seed something in now and hope it sprouts?

Thanks, keen gardeners!

What veggies can I grow in my area?

I live in Northern California where it is sunny and warm (no rain, will have to water manually) through the months of April-September. I would like to start a vegetable garden, maybe some herbs also. What would be a good starter garden for me? I would like to know what veggies/herbs I can grow and have a good turn out, and also maybe a how-to link as this is my first time. Also, what is the turn around time from planting to kitchen table? Any help is greatly appreciated :) TY!
