Vegetables/herbs for dry garden?

I have an area that I am starting up as a vege garden, but am having trouble due to it drying out and stunting the plants

I water as much as i can and even use a deep root waterer, but unless I do it every day, the plants start to shrivel.

The garden is mulched, soil is poor(quite sandy). I have introduced some compost and manure and the organic material has nearly gone already.

What are some vegetables herbs or other edible/useful plants that I could grow?

How do I build a garden on my balcony?

I live in an apartment with a balcony. I would like to grow my own vegetables and herbs such as cilantro. How do I build a vegetable garden on my balcony. Lots of sun shines on my balcony in the morning and some to none by mid-afternoon/evening. I appreciate your gardening wisdom.

Do you think the world is reverting back to the old days?

It is true that way back when, of coarse i am too young to know what that was like, people lived very simply. I myself try to live as simple as possible and as green as possible. Number one it’s healthier for myself and my children. Ive notice that a lot of people are jumping on the band wagon of the natural and organic movement. Does this mean that we are actually realizing that life was much better when we had to work for what we needed. That finally the farmers that have stuck to what they believed in through the struggle could become a success after generations of hard work. My family for years has lived organically, my grandmother and grandfather grew our vegetables and herbs we had some livestock and everything was made from scratch literally. Yes it was hard work but a good nutritious meal was on the table every night.

Ideas and advice on growing a potato plant?

Hello! I’m a new gardener living in an apartment with only a balcony to grow my garden on. So far i’ve been working with small window boxes of herbs and a few vegetables (aside from my flowers). My question is what is the best way to grow a potato plant? Do I need alot of space for this, or can it be grown in a pot? Im completely clueless about this so any help is appreciated!

Which vegetables grow best in small planters?

As the title suggests. I live in a flat and don’t have any garden space, but we do have a number of fairly large window-boxes – around 12″ deep, 12″ wide and 40″ long. I’ve always grown herbs in them, but is there any kind of vegetable I could hope to grow in a space like that? I understand that potatoes and butternut squash are a bit out of my reach, but there must be something that could grow there? Tomatoes? Peppers? Onions? Could I just seed something in now and hope it sprouts?

Thanks, keen gardeners!

Can I grow herbs and some vegetables other than tomatoes in grow bags?

I was thinking of peas, beans, lettuce, and some herbs. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully done this.

How can I make a raised bed garden cheaply without wood working experience?

I would like to make a raised bed garden for my vegetables this year. The area I have to work with is 14′x6′ and I’d like to make a couple of boxes (both squares and rectangular) to go into that area. I plan to grow lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and a couple misc. vegetables. I would like to do this in the most cost effective way because I’m just a cheap person, but I’d also like it to look nice. I would love the beds to be made of wood, but the lumber isle of the hardware store is scary. Let alone trying to get the lumber home and heaven forbid I have to cut the wood. I think you get the idea. I see a lot of nice kits online, but once again I’m just too cheap to buy them when I think I can make something nice myself. Any ideas?
