Where is a good gardening web site?

Does anyone know of a good gardening web site where I can find a list of what kind of plants and vegtables to plant and when to plant them ? I have for some unknown reason been bitten by the “bug” and am chomping at the bit to give it a try… I used to really enjoy working in my familys flower and vegtable garden when I was a child.

I would like to have some kind of plants or flowers to grow most of the year…as far as the vegtable garden I was thinking along the lines of the more basic items…corn, tomatoes, squash, beans, melons..things like that, but things i could grown and tend to throughout the year.

I know that this may seem like a big question, but I really think I can do this…grow things I mean.

Any advice ya’ll could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Michael

What sorts of flowers and plants thrive in the northern US?

I recently moved to Maine from Pennsylvania. I’m going to plant a garden this summer, but I don’t know what sorts of plants and flowers will do best in the cooler tempetures. Any ideas? I’m renting the house, so I only need plants that will last one season. (the landlord already okayed the garden, so I don’t have to worry about that). The house has a small yard bordered by trees on two sides, and a neighbor and a road on the other two, and most of it is very sunny. Its very rich, dark dirt, but its a little rocky. I’m looking for flowers, vegtables and herbs. I’m also on a budget, so plants I can grow from seed, or plants that are inexpensive would be the best. Any suggestions would be great! thanks!

If Vegans don’t eat meat because of the cruelty to animals: then all y’all are just hypocrites!?

Technically, vegtables are put through the same suffering and painful mechanical machines and processing as animals. You may want to quit eating everything altogether, if that’s your reason.

And before some shmuck says that ‘veggies don’t have nerves to feel pain’, guess again. Vegetables are living orgnaisms that respond to environmental stimulus. If you kept hitting a lettuce head (not hard enoguh to smash it, of course) then it will respond by not growing as much on that side or stop growing all together >=O!!!!

P.S, I’m all ready for flames :)

Is it ok to water a vegetable garden with water that has uranium in it?

My folks just found ou that they have uranium in their water. They have put a filtartion system on the drinking water but not to the hose outside that they water their garden with. I was wondering if this would efect the vegtables they are growing. Thanks
