Is it to late to grow plants from seeds in my area?

I live in Western Tennessee. I’d like to grow a vegetable garden and maybe some flowers. Is it to late?

  1. It’s not too late
just make sure they get the right amount of water during the summer months

  2. Probably want to try to use starters if you can find some. We just had a frost and a flood kill most of our garden, and some stuff we planted from seed is just now coming up… we have friends with the same plants that survived the frost/flood that are nearly knee high.

Most melons, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins and such would still grow well if started from seed now though.

  3. I would seriously recommend you use ready grown plants for vegetables because if you start seeds now then you will loose about one month of harvesting time because my pepper plants are already giving out peppers and i just bought them 2 weeks ago. For flowers you can start with seeds but vegetables go for ready grown. Have fun.

  4. You will loose alot of the growing season, so if you use plants from your garden dept you will make up for it. Happy gardening.

  5. Look at the seed packets or catalogs. Anything with a maturity date of 60 days or less can still be directly sown. Anything later than that, you should consider buying plants that can be transplanted.
