  1. This is a guess……but I’d say that you should watch the weather and see what the trend looks like….warmth, rain, snow, etc. But I’d say you should be safe starting at the end of April, or first part of May.

    It will take time for the plants to push thru the ground anyway, so if it does snow or frost they should be safe. What you don’t want is to have them come up and get frost, which I’m sure you know already.

  2. Find out what USDA zone you are in and get the date for the last average frost for your area. Don’t plant until after this date. If you have a sunny protected location to start your seeds early like a greenhouse or sunny window, start them 4 to 6 week before your last frost date in small peat pots,etc. This will give them a start so they can be transplanted once your weather is warm enough to plant outside.

  3. i like to break ground for the first time in april and then turn the soil again just before planting.may 15 is usually the approx. time for our area. i’m in nj.
